Hello everyone,
Im Ami from Brunei Darussalam, I writing this article about Royal Knights deck with the new BT20 support!! I been piloting this deck ever since the new set arrived, trying different variant of build and I gonna share my opinion on the deck with you guys.
Here’s my recent decklist that I use and won with it.
Deck Build
Some major problem with Royal Knights deck is lack of Digimon at field in the early game but thanks to the new Omeka and Cool Boy BT20 it help fix the problem! Omeka BT20 is a blocker and On Deletion effect put it under Yggdrasil, help you fill the source to reduce playcost. Not just that, Omeka ESS effect by suspending your Yggdrasil in the breeding area it allowed you to play Omeka back from the source if your security is remove. As for the new Cool boy its also allowed you to play Omeka whenever your Royal Knight would leave the battle area. With this new cards the deck is more faster and balance!
Game Plan
For the starting hand you need to have at least 1-3 of this card in hand
Purge of the Royal Knights
With the help from this option card you can setup your Yggdrasil more faster to reduce play cost. The main cards you need to put in is:
Leopard BT13
Leopard BT13 On Play/Main OPT effect help you reduce the play cost by 4 whenever you about to play a digimon with Royal Knights. With this effect you can cheat out to play Omni early even your RK at Yggdrasil source is 3 or less.
Alpha Ace BT20
The new Alpha Ace is really good because of the all turn effect when security is remove you gain +3 memory, allowing you to have extra memory when you remove opponent security and can do more play.
Optional
Dukemon BT12
I see people no longer bring Dukemon BT12 inside the deck but the effect is still strong. When attacking delete 6K DP or less but if nothing is deleted opponent trash 1 security. With this effect you can clear 2 security in one go and have a chance to avoid removal card.
Lordknightmon BT19
Lordknight effect play 1 level 4 or lower digimon from your trash, giving you extra body for attacker when you play it by Omni BT13 giving all your digimon rush for the turn. You can cheat out OmniX for free with this effect to play the new Omeka BT20 which allow you to digivolve to Omni X without paying the cost from your hand if you have 1 security or less.
Jesmon BT20
Similar as Lordkinght BT19 effect, Jesmon BT20 On Play effect make 1 token with Reboot/Blocker/Decoy Red or Black which give you extra body for attacker when you play it by Omni BT13.
Dynasmon BT13
Dynas help with searching RK pieces either digimon or option and can help you fill your trash with Omeka or Cool boy.
Omeka BT13/BT20
Having either 2 Omeka in your starting hand is fine since both can help you fill Yggdrasil source.
Field Setup
In the early game set up 1-2 Purge of the Royal Knights, putting Leopard BT13 & Alpha Ace BT20 inside Yggdrasil. Afterwards just focus on filling 2-3 more RK in Yggdrasil to help reduce play cost + to prepare body for Omni BT13. Try to reduce opponent security to 4-3 while at it. Once your set up is done then go wild with Omni BT13 call out the other Royal Knights and finish the game.
MATCHUPS
During the first week Im joing local events I fought many different decks, some play deck from new set and some play old deck with BT20 cards tech inside. Among the decks that I against, here is deck that I find to have a 50-50 to against with.
VS Examon : With the new Exa Delay option removing their level 5/6 is a bit hard since it allow them to joggress if it would leave the battlefield. My way in handling it is by baiting them to use the delay, once they no longer have the delay then clearing the board is easy.
VS PHy : Ukko rush in the early game and have no removal for tamer is hard for Royal Knight. My only out for PHy is Omeka BT20, Paladin and setup Yggdrasil as fast as possible before they do their loop combo.
VS R/P Imperial : With the new support the deck become more faster and stronger especially the new fighter mode which prevent opponent from playing Digimon and Tamer by effect. Thanks to this effect it can shut down deck like Royal Knight, Angrey Bird etc. Even tho the deck is strong its took time also for them to setup their board, using that opportunity to setup your field also. Paladin is the key card when you against this deck, it help to slow them once they bring BT20 Fighter mode out.
Final Thought
When I first got my Royal Knight support from BT20 I spend the whole day doing research, looking for decklist, gameplay and guide. I don’t have a practice partner so I usually do practice alone, shadow practice imagining every possible things that could happen during the match and trying to find a way to solve it. After I bring it to tourney I learn more what is lacking in the deck and here is opinion;
Medievel EX8
Having Medieval inside the deck is not necessary, it still a good card to put in but budget wise the deck still can do well without it.
Imperial Paladin Mode BT17
I cut down to 1 inside the deck since I rarely use it. Paladin is good when you against deck Partition or deck that rely on Trash, it help you to screw or slow down their play.
Dukemon Crimson Mode BT17
Im thinking to cut it down to 1 also inside the deck and replace it Jesmon GX BT20. Since I playing Jesmon and Gankoo inside the deck it can help with extra attack by joggress, if Jesmon and Gankoo are play by Omni.
Omnimon X BT10
Play Omni X from BT10 as a joke but surprisingly it help carry the deck. With its effect when digivolve return all your opponent digimon to bottom deck and when attacking return X antibody/Omeka BT20(since it treated as X antibody) from its source to bottom deck, you reveal opponent security and trash 1 card among them.
Other than the cards I mention, other pieces for Royal Knights are still good to play around with. My advise when playing Royal Knights is to be Patient, focus on preparing your setup in the early game and don’t go overboard on controlling your opponent field. Sure you can go control the field but eventually you will out of gas, screw yourself by not properly setting up. A friend of mine a returning player taught me, “Ignore your opponent unless what’s they doing is a threat”. After watching his play I learn, my play start getting better and better ever since he’s coming back playing. If not because of him I won’t reach this far, Evo Cup events, my KL trip and my first BCF tourney, Im grateful for it.
That’s all from me, big thanks to Digimon Meta for giving me the opportunity to write the article and until next time. Digital Gate nya Dibuka!!
