Digimon TCG Indonesia – First Ever Community Regional! Event Report and Thoughts

Invited Author: TCGnoHeya
Country: Indonesia

Overview

Sunday, April 10th 2022; Indonesia’s Digimon TCG First Ever Community Regional event reached its final stage and conclusion, with the Champion title crowned to a player with one of the least expected deck in the BT9 X-Record format!

Digimon TCG Indonesia Community Regional is a collaboration event in Indonesia, organized by TCGnoHeya with the qualifier hosted by 10 Local Game Store in Jakarta and its surroundings across 8 weeks. Each of the 10 Local Game Stores will host 1 Qualifier tournament each, where Participants who finished 1st and 2nd position after a 5 round Swiss will be eligible to join the Grand Final, procuring a total of 20 Regional Finalists.

About “Digimon TCG Indonesia – Community Regional”

(DTCG Indonesia Community Regional Event Poster)

DTCG have been gaining good hype in Indonesia since BT-03 and have been consistently growing over the following releases. Each Local Game Stores host event for their respective communities, building up a healthy competitive scenery in each small community. However, it was notable that Indonesia’s DTCG Community lacked a large-scale organized event. One event was planed once but was cancelled due to the spike in Covid-19 cases.

DTCGI Community Regional was pitched in as an idea to unite Indonesia’s DTCG Community in one long-term large-scale event, where players would look forward to join and spar against one another outside their local shop community. With the design of the event, this community regional provides equal opportunity for everyone to compete against one another to get their own tickets to the finals.

The event started was teased from the end of the year in 2021 and started its first Qualifier on January 8th, 2022 and had its last Qualifier on January 30th, 2022; Qualifiers are done in BT-8 and EX-2 format.

The Grand Final was supposed to be done in mid-February. However, due to the spike in Covid-19 cases and the implementation of lockdowns following the spike; the Grand Final was postponed to April 10th 2022, and was done in BT-9 format.

Another benefit procured from the event to the community is that everyone gets to know one another outside their local shop community; friendship between communities and game stores ranging from one closest to one furthest.

The Final round was finally held in one single day on April 10th, 2022; with the 20 finalists competing in a BO1 5-round Swiss. Top 8 after Swiss were presented Certificate as keepsake for their achievements; then the Top 4 proceeded to compete in a BO3 Single Elimination Format until we have the undefeated winner.

The grand final itself went smoothly and free of disputes. Most games were even and tight, almost none were one sided. Each and every single moves were calculated and thought thoroughly. Also, what’s most important is that the players were respectful to one another, to the judges, and to the organizers, throughout the events.

Many decks were spotted, from the top contender meta like Alphamon Ouryuken, Rogue competitive like Dukemon, and even an old top tier rising up from the dead; Mastemon Jogress; who ended up claiming the Champion throne of the event.

Closing Remark

Personally, as participant, part of the organizer team, and a dedicated supporter of DTCG Indonesia Community Regional; it was satisfying to see the closure of the event with players being satisfied of the whole run. I believe that other than being a large-scale event the Indonesian community needed, the event had also sparked new interest in Digimon TCG for newer community and further strengthen the bonds of existing community. That itself is already a reward for either the organizer and the Indonesian Community.

I am sure Digimon TCG Indonesia Community Regional can set a healthy standard for future tournaments carried out in similar or larger scale in Indonesia, by community and/or by Officials, and that players are looking forward for further large-scale events and/or organised play.

Beginner Guide: Multicolor Cards and DNA Digivolution

Starting from ST9 and ST10, multi-color cards and DNA Digivolution are introduced to players. These are new mechanics that help bring the Digimon Card Game to a next level of technique and strategy.

Multicolor Digimon or Option Cards

These Digimon and option cards have multiple colors, such as yellow/purple, blue/green, black/red, blue/red, etc. They are treated as having all the specified colors simultaneously.

Unlike Digimon with effect such as "Your Turn/ All turn: this Digimon is also treated as (color)", multiple colour Digimon are considered to have multi-color in all areas, including raising area, battle area, trash, hand, deck, security stack. Moreover, a single multicolor Digimon counts as having multiple colors for cards that care about color count.

For example: [BT8-053] Raidramon is a blue/green Digimon that is counted as both a blue Digimon and a green Digimon in all the area (including raising area). Since it is a blue/green Digimon, it can digivolve into a Digimon that has either color. If a card effect requires you to have 2 or more colors of Digimon in play, a single multicolour Raidramon counts for 2 colors all by itself.

[BT8-084] Kimeramon is a special white Digimon that can be evolved from any color Digimon. If Kimeramon is Jogress-ed (DNA)  Digivolution from other multiple colors Digimon, this Digimon is also treated as the color of the cards in its digivolution cards. For example, if Kimeramon is jogressed from a LV4 yellow/purple Digimon and a LV4 blue/green Digimon, Kimeramon now itself is considered as a 5 colors Digimon (white, yellow, purple, blue and green).

In the early time of ST9/ST10, there are many misplays when using multicolour option cards. Originally we have thought that we could cast a multi-color option card as long as there is at least 1 card of the same color in play, this is INCORRECT.

To use a multi-color option card, you must meet all its color requirements. For example, to use [BT8-105] Dark Gaia Force, you must have both black and red color cards on your field. These can include your hatched Digitama in raising area, tamer or Digimon in battle area.

DNA Digivolution

DNA Digivolution or Jogress Digivolution is a new type of digivolution that combines 2 Digimons together to digivolve. Digimon cards with DNA Digivolution conditions are able to DNA digivolve.

Here is a step-by-step guide from Bandai for DNA DIgivolution:
1. Look at the DNA Digivolution requirements for the Digimon card in your hand, if you have all the specified Digimon in your battle area with the requested color, you may proceed to do DNA digivolve.
2. Place the Digimon card that you want to DNA digivolving into your battle area unsuspended on top of the two Digimon specified for the DNA digivolution, including there digivolution cards.
When stacking the cards, follow by the requirement of DNA digivolution, the first color must stay on top of the second color.

For example, the ST9 Paildramon condition to DNA Digivolve: Blue lv4 + Green Lv4 : 0 Cost, the lv4 and its digivolution cards should be placed like this:

3. After placing the card in respected order,  we must pay the required digivolution cost and draw a card as a digivolution bonus.
4. If there is any [When Digivolving] effects, activate them. And just like a normal Digimon, the DNA-ed Digimon can inherited all the inherited effects from its digivolution cards.

And these are things that makes DNA Digivolution mechanic so much powerful:
– When DNA digivolving, even if one or both of used Digimon are suspended, the post-DNA digivolution Digimon will enter play unsuspended.
– All effects on pre-digivoltion end, and are reset. Means even if you already used the [Once per turn] effect in all of the inherited effect before doing DNA digivolution, the DNA-ed Digimon can still activate [Once Per Turn] effect again.
– Even if one or both of the Digimon used in the DNA Digivolution came into play this turn, after DNA digivolving them together, the resulting Digimon (DNA-ed Digimon) can attack as soon as it enters battle area.
– If there is an effect to reduce the digivolution cost like "When one of your Digimon digivolves, you can reduce the digivolution cost by ()". As a normal digivolution step, the reduce digivolution cost effect is also applied for DNA digivolution.

To get more info about DNA Digivolution (or Jogress Digivolution), you can also check out the previous post "updates on Jogress digivolution" in the site.

Could this be the RAREST Digimon cards in existence?

Talk about lost treasures. Today we came across a very unique and possibly one of the rarest cards to ever drop into our inboxes. I’m not exactly where else that you can get them but these cards, they are a true and proper gem. Let me break it down to you what I meant by rare.

  1. You can only obtain them from a literal handful of countries. E.g Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Hong Kong.
  2. These are the very first Digimon cards to have ever been created. (1997-1999)
  3. You can only purchase them from vending machines (Yes not even a booster pack)

Combine all the elements together, you’ll get these Digimon Pendulum cards. Imagine that, Bandai decided to launch those cards together without a proper sealed packaging to keep them nice and safe but instead, by using vending machines. Considering all the factors, I can only imagine most of the cards getting lost somewhere or even most of them getting scratches and whitening on it. Of course there are a few miraculous ones and today my Digimon enthusiasts, I present to you the miracle.

Possibly, the very first graded Digimon Pendulum Card created by Bandai –

It’s such a beauty isn’t it? This is truly extraordinary considering the fact that it’s been hiding for 23 whole years and it got graded a SGC 9? This might even be rarer than the 1st Edition Charizard. For a card that was designed and printed in the late 90s, the artwork truly transcends time and it was way ahead of it’s time.

The owner of these cards, Feroz Khaili, told us that he has bought these series of cards every day during his primary school days just to complete the entire collection because Digimon was the hype back then and these cards were very appealing. It was at this moment we asked him, why did you decided to get it graded?

  • Feroz said, “I’ve actually been wanting to get it graded for the past few years but every time I get into contact with grading companies like PSA or CGC, they would just tell me that they can’t get it graded due to the lack of reference. So, I contacted Bandai directly to get some reference so they could assist me with the grading process but was informed instead that they couldn’t provide any information as they don’t have such departments to assist me with it. So what do I do next? I went on Facebook and that’s where I saw Digimon card collectors getting their cards graded through SGC. So, I decided to send them an email and within a day, they responded and told me that they would love to get them graded. So here I am, finally graded and kept in the best condition ever."

Now at this point, we are assuming that there he has kept more of this card so we wanted to know about his future plans for these cards and if the rest of them are going to get graded. He replied, “Yes, I actually have a lot more of these cards and I am definitely getting them sent to be graded especially the very 1st card of these series.

Imagine that. One of the rarest Digimon cards in the entire world just sitting in a dusty corner of the room in mint condition just waiting to be graded. It was definitely a very exciting day for Digimon card collectors around the world and we’re guessing that this isn’t going to be the last time we’ll ever see these cards.

BT-9 Question Answer
002 Puyoyomon
1 Does this effect activates when i return my own Digimon to my hand? Yes, it will be activated.
2 Does this effect activates when a card effect allows you to draw and discard card from your hand? Yes, it will be activated.
003 Tokomon ‘X-Antibody’
1 Will this card effect activate during the timing of “Add a card from your security to your hand, then perform <Recovery 1 [Deck]>” ? Yes, it will be activated
008 Agumon ‘X-Antibody’
1 Does the effect mean that I can’t add the cards to my hand unless I add both card with “Greymon” or  “Omegamon” in name and “X-Antibody” to my hand from the revealed cards? No. You can add the card to your hand even though you only revealed cards with “Greymon” or “Omegamon” in it’s name or “X-Antibody”.
2 If I reveal cards with “Greymon” or “Omegamon” in it’s name and “X-Antibody”, can I choose not to add them to hand? No because the effect stated “Add to hand”, thus you are required to add as much as possible from the revealed cards. You are required to add cards with “Greymon” or “Omegamon” in name and 1 “X-Antibody” to your hand.
009 Guilmon “X-Antibody”
1 What does the effect “Increase the DP limit of DP deletion effect by +1000DP”  of this card mean? This effect refers to deletion effect that states” Delete Digimon with DP ??? or less” and “Select opponent’s Digimon with the total of ???? or less”. This effect enables the player to increase the limit by 1000DP.
However this effect does not apply to effects such as “Delete the Digimon that has lower DP than this Digimon”.
011 Growlmon “X-Antibody”
1 What does the effect “Increase the DP limit of DP deletion effect by +1000DP”  of this card mean? This effect refers to the deletion effect that states ”Delete Digimon with DP ??? or less” and “Select opponent’s Digimon with the total of ???? or less”. This effect enables the player to increase the limit by 1000DP.
However this effect does not apply to effects such as “Delete the Digimon that has lower DP than this Digimon”.
012 Greymon “X-Antibody”
1 Does the effect of this card “By trashing 2 cards with the same Lv.” does it require to be the same Lv. as the current Digimon? No, the effect states to trash 2 cards from the evolution source that have the same Lv.
For example, by discarding 2 Lv.5 from the evolution source, this Digimon will not be deleted or returned to the deck/hand.
2 Is it possible to include this card to be trashed when activating this card’s evolution source effect? Yes, you can.
3 Can this evolution source effect activate when this Digimon DP reaches 0?  No, you can’t. Due to the fact that the Digimon DP becomes 0 and it will be deleted due to rules and not the effect of the card. It will not be considered as deleted by card effect.
013 Omega Shoutmon “X-Antibody”
1 The effect of “When you have “OmegaShoutmon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source” does that mean I can activate the effect, if I have cards with X-Antibody trait in the evolution source? No, you can’t because this effect specifies the card name and it’s required to meet the condition you have cards with “OmegaShoutmon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source. It does not refer to the trait of the cards.
014 MegaloGrowlmon “X-Antibody”
1 The effect of “When you have “MegaloGrowlmon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source” does that mean I can activate the effect, if I have cards with X-Antibody trait in the evolution source? No, you can’t because this effect specifies the card name and it’s required to meet the condition you have cards with “MegaloGrowlmon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source. It does not refer to the trait of the cards.
015 MetalGreymon “X-Antibody”
1 The effect of “When you have “MetalGreymon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source” does that mean I can activate the effect, if I have cards with X-Antibody trait in the evolution source? No, you can’t because this effect specifies the card name and it’s required to meet the condition you have cards with “Metalgreymon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source. It does not refer to the trait of the cards.
2 After I evolve this Digimon, if I place the card “X-Antibody” under this card’s evolution source in the same turn, do I get DP+3000 due to its effects? No, since this effect activates and checks for the card named “MetalGreymon” or “X-Antibody” on evolution, this Digimon does not gain DP+3000 if you place the card “X-Antibody” under this card’s evolution source after evolving it.
016 Wargreymon “X-Antibody”
1 The effect of “When you have “Wargreymon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source” does that mean I can activate the effect, if I have cards with X-Antibody trait in the evolution source? No, you can’t because this effect specifies the card name and it’s required to meet the condition you have cards with “Wargreymon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source. It does not refer to the trait of the cards.
2 This card’s [Both Turn] effect, when the player attacks the security and checks a Security Digimon and battles it. Does the player get the memory +1? Since the security will be reduce when performing checks. If there is a [Security] effect during the checks, [Security] effect will be activated 1st and this effect will be activated later . After that if there are no other effects to be activated, you will +1 memory before battling the security Digimon.

017 Dukemon “X-Antibody”
1 What is the effect of [When Evolve] “Delete 1 of your opponent Digimon with the lowest DP. If there is no Digimon was deleted by this effect” meant? The effect of [When Evolve] is when your opponent has no Digimon or Digimon with the lowest DP does not get deleted by this card effect. It also means during the timing when there is no target that can be deleted by this card effect.
2 Can I choose not to delete my opponent’s Digimon when I activate this card’s [When Evolve] effect? No, you can’t. You are required to pick a target if possible during the activation of this effect.
3 When an opponent has a Digimon that “Can’t be deleted by opponent’s card effects” and the Digimon has the same DP as this Digimon. During the activation of this card’s [When Evolving] effect, can I choose my opponent’s Digimon that has the effect of “can’t be deleted by your opponent’s card effect”? Yes, you can. If there are multiple Digimon with the lowest DP you can select either 1 of them as a target. So it’s possible to choose a Digimon that has the effect of “Can’t be deleted by opponent card effects” which will allow you to active this Digimon.
4 The effect of “When you have “Dukemon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source” does that mean I can activate the effect, if I have cards with X-Antibody trait in the evolution source? No, you can’t because this effect specifies the card name and it’s required to meet the condition you have cards with “Dukemon” or “X-Antibody” in the evolution source. It does not refer to the trait of the cards.
018 DinoRexmon
1 Does [When Evolve] allow you to +1 memory for each tamer your opponent has? Yes.
2 While my opponent has multiple tamers and only has 1 Digimon. Can I only rest the only Digimon and add memory for each tamer that my opponent has? Yes.
3 Can I choose not to use the [Both Turn] effect? It’s a “You May” effect. You can choose not to use it and if it's not used the <1 PerTurn> will not be used.
4 When I declare an attack. My opponent Digimon with 6000DP activates <Blocker> and rest it and due to the [Both Turn] effect that Digimon is deleted. What will happen to the attack in this situation? Since the Blocking Digimon is deleted by this card effect and due to the attack target is no longer there. The attack will end.
020 Gabumon “X-Antibody”
1 Does the effect mean that I can’t add the cards to my hand unless I add both card with “Garurumon” or  “Omegamon” in name and “X-Antibody” to my hand from the revealed cards? No. You can add the card to your hand even though you only revealed cards with “Garurumon” or “Omegamon” in it’s name or “X-Antibody”.
2 If I reveal cards with “Garurumon” or “Omegamon” in its name and “X-Antibody”, can I choose not to add them to hand? No because the effect stated “Add to hand”, thus you are required to add as much as possible from the revealed cards. You are required to add cards with “Garurumon” or “Omegamon” in name and 1 “X-Antibody” to your hand.

BT-08 New Hero Carton Pull Rate Data

We used to be surprised, shocked or disappointed with EX1 and BT7 pull rate since Bandai made it hard to predict what we will pull from 1 carton. They might have received negative feedbacks from those set and decided to come to normal pattern in BT8 New Hero.

Here is what we get in BT8:

  • There is NO REPEAT AA cards in 1 carton. Except for 4 SEC normal art (2 for Deamon and 2 for Imperial Paladin Mode), you will get 8 different AA cards.
  • There will be cartons without SEC (Secret Rare) AA, normally you will have 1 or 2 different SEC AA in 1 carton.
  • There are boxes with only 3 SR + 1 AA, more boxes with 4SR + 1 AA.
  • The SR pull rate is quite balance for this set. You will have 4 or 5 copies of each SR in 1 carton, it is very rare if you have 3 copies for 1 SR.

But I believed many of us are not happy with the BT8 New Hero cards, especially the SEC Deamon. Deamon is the first SEC Digimon that its normal art day-1 price is as low as a normal SR card. There is no BT8 AA cards that 100 000 yen in day-1, the most expensive card, Imperial Dragon Paladin Mode, is priced as 7800 yen in Bigweb (~68 USD). The runner up is Chimeramon AA card, which is 6980 yen (~61 USD). Chimeramon is expected to stay in high price for this set. We are not sure if it will be in tier meta but we can't deny the usable ability of the card.

Some cartons pull rate

We have collected some of carton pull-rate from Twitter and FB, and here is what we have so far.

Market Review: Challenge Cup Cards

The prices of Challenge Cup cards are surprisingly quite expensive, especially for the ST1 WarGreymon alternate art card.

The Challenge Cup  is currently happening in Japan (Nov 2021), and prizes are distributed as below:

  • Participant: 1 copy of [BT5-001] Koromon.
  • Top 8: 1 copy of BT5 Greymon
  • Winner: 1 copy of WarGreymon.

Considering that only 1 copy of Wargreymon is given out at each tournament, the number of WarGreymons in the market should be quite limited. However, the Challenge Cup should not be a very big-sized tournament (comparing it to the English Evo Cup) as they are mostly hosted by local card shops in Japan with a maximum capacity of 30 players, and we expect many more to be hosted (unless otherwise).

So, what is the market price of these cards.

There are no record of prices in Bigweb, but we found reference prices on Yuyutei and MasterSquare.

Above is the current listing in Yuyutei (as of Nov 10) though they have not added the card art yet. Koromon is listed at 4980 Yen (~44 USD), the Greymon at 12800 Yen (~113 USD) and the champion card WarGreymon at 99800 Yen (~882 USD).

Source: https://www.masters-square.com/phone/product-list/345

Similarly, listings from MasterSquare Japan shows these 3 cards (albeit a little more expensive compared to Yuyutei), with WarGreymon being out of stock. We are not sure if any were actually sold at that price.

Considering the age of this card game, these are rather expensive prices for prize cards from a medium-sized tournament (again, unless we are mistaken about this tournament's actual scale).

How about English cards then?

These cards are printed as English first back in the June Premier TO event (which was only hosted on June 2021) so the copies of the champion card WarGreymon are not many.

The card's price is listed in TCGPlayer (as of Nov 10) as below:

Are we seeing positive signs that Digimon will have a place in the collector's market?

Meta Challenge #1: For North America Evo cup in Nov 2021

Hello all Digimon players in North America.

We know you are getting bored with BT5 meta that been happening in NA for almost 4months, we know you are looking for something fresh, something new as we are.

Digimon Card Meta would like to host a small challenge for the coming Evo Cup that is happening before pre-release of BT6 (19 Nov), hence these 2 events will be qualified for our challenge.

https://world.digimoncard.com/event/evolution_cup_november2021/

Here is the info of the meta challenge #1

General Non-Meta Guidelines

  • A deck will be considered as rookie rush if it contains 20 or more LV3 Digimons.
  • A deck will be considered as security control if the total number of option cards, tamers and security Digimons is 25 or more.

The top 2 winning decks of the Evo Cup will be reviewed by Digimon Card Meta to see they satisfy the conditions to receive the reward.

If both decks meet the condition, only the 1st place deck will receive the reward.

The reward will be:

  • 1 copy of Sistermon Noir normal art (BT6 Japanese version)
  • 1 copy of a rookie from Memorial set 1 (Japanese version) (you choose for yourself)
