Is Green Going to be "Defensive" in new Meta?

Overview

With the official released from Bandai or leaks from magazine or digimon card game forum for BT5 Omega Battle, we got to know 9 out of 10 SR cards and for the Secret Rare, it seems one of them is Omegamon Zwart D which is for purple and black color. In spite of the aggressiveness of current Meta with, Green is showing potential to become defensive in BT5. It would make sense because red, blue, purple and black get more supports in BT5, faster and stronger, then … what if green will be following yellow footpath?

Do Not Attack me

The only SR for green (for now) [BT5-056] Rafflesimon, with its digiburst effect to made 1 of opponent's digimon cannot block or attack until end of opponent next turn, the ability we normally seen in blue deck. On top of that, the new expensive cost option card [BT5-102] Wisselen gives the same effect that "until end of opponent next turn, 2 of opponent's digimon cannot block or attack. If the combo of Rafflesimon and option Wisselen use in same turn, will be up-to 3 opponent's digimon cannot block or attack in opponent's next turn, and using Wisselen when Rafflesimon in the battle can help to save 2 costs when play Wisselen because Rafflesimon has "digiburst".

To add on the "defensive" strategy for green, now it is maybe the right time to bring out Rosemon from your binder to use in new meta. The Rosemon from starter deck gives the "When digivolving" effect that 1 of opponent's digimon cannot block or attack until end of opponent next turn, and the Rosemon from BT1 is to rest 1 of opponent's digimon in opponent turn if opponent's digimon attack security on the condition that she is rested.

To use BT1 Rosemon effectively, we can make the combo with [BT4-059] Lilamon and the new Tamer [Bt5-089] Izzy Izumi & Mimi. Lilamon can do digiburst to rest 1 opponent digimon with lower DP and then attack it, then if we have the Tamer Izzy Izumi&Mimi play in the battle, you can digivolve to the LV6 Rosemon without cost in rested state, Rosemon will be useful in opponent turn. This Rosemon needs to accompany with starter deck Rosemon or Wisselen option card, if these cards helps to cast spell on higher DP digimon so that they cannot block or attack in opponent's next turn. Seeing Rosemon in the battle also makes lower DP digimon hesitates to attack security.

It is the same strategy to use [BT5-055] BanchoLilymon, digivolving into this digimon from Lilamon after Lilamon attacks. Even it is rested, opponent won't dare to destroy Bancholilymon, so next turn we can digivolve it into Chaosmon.

Nokia must be suspended

Nokia is a new Tamer that will give many many benefits for Red, Blue, Purple and Black. I foreseen that player of these colors will put max number of this card that they can in the deck (4 copies). For green, the solution to oppose this problem is provided in BT5 with new Argomon. Not only Nokia, the color that heavily relies on Tamer such as yellow ShineGreymon, blue Ulforce or hybrid digimon of red and blue that can digivolve from Tamer, all those are needed to be considered.

[BT5-058] Argomon is cheap to digivolve into with only 2 cost if trigger digisorption, the "when digivolving" effect is to suspend all opponent's tamer and in all turn "all of your opponent's tamer cant unsuspend". This effect is going to put the existing Tamer sleep forever, except for the tamer play after this turn or opponent destroys this Argomon. This digimon is only useful against the deck that uses a lot of Tamers.

The Best Stepping Stone LV6 Digimon for Green

The Best Stepping Stone LV6 Digimon for Green

Overview

Green has 2 LV7 digimon that introduced in BT4 Great Legend, Chaomon and Chaosmon: Valdur Arm. These days, green deck always included these powerful mega digimon, they also came up with many strategies to speed up digivolution sequences to reach this level as fast as possible. Of course, speed is green specialty with digisorption effect or Hidden Potential. By the way, there is some valuable LV6 digimon that would lost it powerful effect if we digivolve it to LV7, so they are prefered to remain their level. In a deck, normally we will use up to 2 or 3 types of LV6 digimon, so which one is the best to put there to move to LV7?

GranKuwagamon

GranKuwagamon is a promocard that distributed at the same time with [P-026] BlackWargreymon and [P-027] MetalGarurumon (purple). There is not many players put this card in their green deck, they normally prefer HerculesKabuterimon more. His main effect is: You can trigger digiburst 2 to enable: 1 of your digimon have SecurityAttack+1 in this turn. It seems the SecurityAttack+x is not suitable for green since many of us like to play "resting" or suspending opponent's digimon with green color, but why not we try out new style to play green.

Combo for GranKuwagamon

I think many of us not notice, but the Tamer [BT4-095] Yoshino Fujieda is very useful for any colors that using the digimon with "DigiBurst" effect, she can be the game changer at the right time. For the GranKuwagumon, when digivolve from LV5 to this digimon, we can rest Yoshino to minus 1 memory when digivolving, then use Hidden Potential to move up to LV7 Chaosmon: Valdur Arm with only 1 cost (so totally cost 3 memory to move from LV5 to LV7). I prefer to use Chaosmon Valdur Arm instead of Chaosmon for GranKuwagamon. After digivolve to GranKuwagamon, we can do "digiBurst 2" twice to make this Grankuwagamon gain SecurityAttack+2, but since it only has 11000DP, it is not safe enough to attack security, so we can digivolve to LV7 Chaosmon Valdurarm to perform SecurityAttack instead. The SecurityAttack+2 effect still remains with this digimon, so it's fine.

If we use LV7 Chaosmon, the LV6 digimon need to be suspended, meant it has to do attack in current turn to able to trigger "When digivolving" effect of Chaosmon. What if GranKuwagamon died after first check? It is wasting right…

Deck Review: Why Green Nidhogg Deck is so Strong

Overview

If you check our site deck-list collection for all nidhogg decks, there is the same format that is used for almost all of them. Nidhoggmon is debut in BT04 Great Legend, the card art is not very nice so people don't really want to collect him. In spite of his ugly art, his effect is a real deal to consider. Nighoggmon deck is also a cheap deck, Nidhoggmon and Chaos/Valdurarm are the only SR cards using in the deck, they are both very affordable.

There is 16 cards for LV3 digimon, 11 cards for LV4 digimon, 9 cards for LV5, 7 cards for LV6, 3 for LV7 and 4 cards for option. There is no Tamer using in this deck. In this post, we will discuss why this deck (or deck that is same same with this Nidhogg deck) is so strong. Nidhoggmon deck is currently leading in tourney in both number of players playing it and victory it achieves.

Cheap and Fast

This deck uses all the cheap cost to digivolve in LV4 and LV5 digimon, if they are not cheap then they have "download" effect which is even cheaper. The normal download green deck will use a lot of LV3 digimon to use for download effect.

Green is the only color that have both blocker in LV4 and LV5 that is cheaper to digivolve (1 cost [ST4-07] Kabuterimon from starter deck and 2 cost [BT2-048] Cherrymon). The [BT1-071] Vegiemon is also popular because of its cheap cost in both playing and digivolving. The other LV5 Agomon and Blossomon are "download" type, they can suspend one of their LV3 digimon to digivolve to them for free. This is the main winning condition for green deck. To understand how fast they can be to digivolve to Nidhogg mon, you may want to check out our engine for Nidhogg here.

Memory Cost is never their concern

I think everyone know this cards, and everyone, if playing against green, hates this card… It is [BT3-103] Hidden Potential Discovered!. This card is the most used option card in green deck, and always presenting with 4 copies. It is the key point to make to green strong and scary. It makes the sequences to digivolve from LV3 to LV6 or LV7 becomes free of cost. It is so unfair.

Beside the Hidden Potential, I'd like to give you a hint about the LV2 digitama [BT2-004]Argomon, this is the most useful digitama (i think) in all colors. I got played with friends that using this digitama in their deck. He has 2 digimon on the field with this Argomon in digivolution source, every turn this can add 2 more memory for them, 2 memories is a lot for green. So when you see digimon with this card in digivolution source, if possible, destroy them first to avoid this giving free memory in their turn.

The combo of Nidhogg and HerculesKabuterimon

I believe this is the conversation Nidhogg and HerculesKabuteri discuss when they approach the battle.

Nidhogg: Hey, Hercules, so you are here too.
Hercules: Yeah, they force me to come to support you. So what we should do?
Nidhogg: You help me suspend 2 big boss over there, leave the small as it is, then I send them all to bottle of their deck.
Hercules: Okay, I can do that. How about that big commander?
Nidhogg: Oh, leave him to Chaos, He will take care of it.

And that is the story how the opponent's board is clear-out.

To avoid your board to be clean this way, try to destroy the Hercules before Nidhoggmon appears, and when you see the green is building the digivolution source in raising area and refuse to move out, it means they are waiting for Nidhogg, so avoid to let your digimon with high DP staying in rest state. Once you let them rest, Nidhogg will send them all to bottom of the deck.

Reliable MegaGargo

Overview

I've been playing green the entire BT-03 meta, and as the meta comes to a close this coming weekend I figured I'd write a bit about this deck that has served me quite well. As we all know [BT3-056] Ceresmon was the green meta card everybody was waiting for, being the most hyped-about green card during the BT-03 leaks. However, despite her speed in digivolving I find her lacking in firepower and robustness. It is disastrous if you fail to draw into a Ceresmon early in your hand, or if was she removed (one way or another by Option cards or effects) prematurely. With half of your deck geared towards having Ceresmon in play, you will have a hard time recovering if you no longer have her on the field.

The problem with Ceresmon

I find Ceresmon decks quite rigid. To take advantage of her effects, use close-to-maximum copies of digimons with <Digisorption>. These include [BT2-045] Argomon, [BT2-047] Argomon, and [BT3-054] Blossomon. With Ceresmon also being the main cannon, blockers are needed for protection: [BT1-072] Woodmon and [ST4-08] Kabuterimon. These constitute half the deck, and dictates a general and predictable playstyle with little room for surprise element.

This is Not a Ceresmon Green Deck

[BT1-089] Mimi Tachikawa provides consistent 3-memory during the start of turn, which is essential for executing combos. She also speeds up your game and provides very memory efficient digimon-fielding. Play her early.

If you do not have Mimi, [BT3-094] Ken Ichijouji makes a decent alternative.

MegaGargomon

The LV4 and LV5 digimons in this deck are all cost-effective. Digivolve into [BT3-057] MegaGargomon to rest the opponent's digimon you plan to attack/destroy the next turn. He does not give away too much memory (unlike Puppetmon) so it is unlikely that he can be removed by a LV7 digimon effect, and his DP will be buffed by the inheritable effects of his LV3, 4 and 5 digimons.

Highlander-style Attackers

[BT3-111] Imperialdramon and [ST4-13] HerculesKabuterimon are also played for highlander-style versatility (to avoid drawing both of the same cards in my hand). Both are equally great with <Piercing> and can be digivolved in the nursery (if needed).

Note: I have replaced Hercules with Bancho in my decklist, feel free to swap a BanchoStingmon for a Hercules.

Surprise BanchoStingmon

[BT3-058] BanchoStingmon is the other star of the deck (aside from MegaGargo). He can tilt the game with a single, properly planned attack.

I usually play him with [BT2-047] Argomon for a surprise digivolution from LV4 to LV6 costing just 3 memory (guaranteed if you have Mimi). If there is another threat on the field that might attack a suspended BanchoSting, I will digivolve another digimon into a MegaGargo, given I have another LV5 or LV4 and a Argomon in hand.

Hidden Potential

I play 2 copies of [BT3-103] Hidden Potential, not too many as they might lock my hand. This card is useful to almost all my LV6 digimons, including BanchoStingmon if I do not have enough memory. Memory can be scarce if Mimi is not in play, or if I need them for [ST4-15] Chiku Chiku Bang Bang!

I prefer Chiku Chiku Bang Bang over Flower Cannon for the simple fact that it can rest even blockers.

LV5 and Below

For LV3, 4 and 5 digimons, I emphasize digimons that grant DP buffs and low digivolution costs. With properly stacked DP buffs, even BanchoStingmon can easily surpass a 11000 DP digimon (since his secondary effect will not trigger) and MegaGargomon can surpass even a 15000 DP LV7 digimon.

Summary

I've built this deck for robustness: no one card cannot survive without another, and every card has a certain synergy with another. This deck has gotten me out of sticky situations numerous times, and most importantly is technical and loads of fun! I am looking forward to further optimizations with [BT4-090] Chaosmon once BT-04 lands!

The Green Bee Stings

The Green Bee Stings!

3 November 2020 | Deck Review | Rononrun

Overview

It has only hardly been a week since we got our hands on the new BT-03 cards, and hey look at the new tournament meta from the folks at DTCGreview – 11 winning deck entries from green! This almost doubled the previous week's compilation proving green fast becoming a fan favorite in this new BT-03 meta. There has also been a lot of coverage in Japanese play-testing for green decks weeks before the BT-03 set launch, with a good variety of combinations and play-styles. On that launch weekend I've put together a green deck to test at a locally-hosted tournament and it has managed to do very well to earn first place!

Grow fast and start stinging!

The general strategy here is to digivolve fast into LV5 [BT3-027] Paildramon or [BT3-055] Dinobeemon, both has jamming. Ideally you should be at LV5 by your second turn (or first if you started second). Use both these LV5s to securely check your opponent's security with <Jamming>. Always end your turn leaving as little memory as possible.

DP buffs can likely be more important than memory gains

[BT3-004] Minomon and [BT2-043] Agumon grants a +1000 DP buff each, which is especially important for Dinobeemon and the green [BT3-111] Imperialdramon since they are your main digimon destroyers. [BT3-048] Gargomon will also guarantee to grant +1000 DP when you are attacking a suspended digimon.

[BT3-004] Argomon can very unconditionally grant memory (since we are digivolving fast into Dinobeemon and Paildramon) while [BT3-050] Stingmon encourages destroying digimons in battle.

Imperialdramon duo

When there is a suspended digimon on the field or if you are able to play [BT1-110] Flower Cannon, attack a digimon using green Imperialdramon. You will very likely overpower your opponent with the inherited DP buffs. Destroying a digimon with this Imperialdramon will allow you to check a security (due to <Piercing> effect) in addition to unsuspending itself. If using the blue [BT3-031] Imperialdramon, be sure to complete security checks with all your fielded Dinobeemons and Paildramons before digivolving into blue Imperialdramon as all of them will be unsuspended, allowing for either safely or a second round of security checks.

Stability matters

This deck relies on a stable and consistent digivolution ladder to move quickly and efficiently, in addition to maintaining a healthy hand size. [BT1-067] Palmon and [BT2-044] Tyrannomon provides searching in case of unstable hand.

Several copies of LV4 blocker [BT1-072] Woodmon not only prevents rookie rushes and the new BT3 Veemon/Exveemon combo, but also provides added protection to your suspended digimons. [BT3-054] Blossomon has <Digisorption-3> allowing for a quick digivolution into either [BT2-051] RustTyrannomon or [BT3-058] BanchoStingmon (while still being at your turn to attack) when the situation calls for it.

Refrain from playing too many tamers and options

[BT1-089] Mimi is an essential tamer for this deck as she grants a stable and much-needed 3-memory at the begining of your turn, which is crucial to ensure that you are able to either digivolve into Dinobeemon/Paildramon/Imperialdramon/BanchoStingmon for a surprise attack, or grant you enough memory to flower cannon and pierce. In addition, she will greatly increase your speed as you will likely not need to hard-play LV3 digimons very often. As for option, flower cannon is as important in your hand as it is in your security stack, being able to halt security barrages.

Dealing with LV7 digimons

While at first glance this deck lacks removal options such as Terror Cluster, they are often not needed as green can control the board very effectively. Furthermore, with some inherited DP buffs, green Imperialdramon can overcome the LV7 Milleniummon quite easily. In those other rare occasions when you are not able to hit fast enough or control, BanchoStingmon and [BT2-049] Puppetmon can help overcome those situations.
